Airlines Redesign Their Websites, But Not Their Business Flaws

Filed under: Travel — Laura Moncur @ 5:00 am

The major airlines have been redesigning their websites to make things easier for customers to purchase their tickets without face-time with airline employees.

The airlines have bragged that,

“Technologically, airline Web sites are as complicated a retail site as you’re ever going to see.”

Jeffery Veen quipped back,

“Airline web sites are complex and confusing because the way airlines do business is complex and confusing.”

Airlines have been using variable pricing structures for years, but the fact that we have access to all their pricing information now makes that obvious. If the airlines want to compete in the information age, they are going to have to redesign more than just their websites.
