PostSecret: Hotel Room

Filed under: Postcards — Laura Moncur @ 5:00 am

This postcard on PostSecret was interesting:

PostSecret: Hotel Room

Most hotel rooms have a smoke detector with a blinking red light that reminds me of video recorders. I find that I feel the same way in rooms with that little blinking light, even though the new video recorders don’t have those little red lights.

PostSecret‘s beneficiary is the National Hopeline Network. It is a 24-hour hotline (1 (800) SUICIDE) for anyone who is thinking about suicide or knows someone who is considering it.

Postcard of the Week: Mapparium in Boston

Filed under: Postcards — Laura Moncur @ 5:00 am

Back in October, I received this postcard and promptly filed it away. I forgot to scan it in and post it here, but it’s here now!

The postcard reads:

“Walk on a glass bridge into the center of the world for a dazzling view of the Earth’s continents and oceans. A popular Boston attraction for over sixty years, the three-story Mapparium now includes light and sound presentations.”

Postcard of the Week: Crater Lake, Oregon

Crater Lake, Oregon

Postcard from Brian D.

We just received this postcard from Brian D. in Oregon. It’s amazing that it arrived to us because it was damaged in the shipping. If you can see, our P.O. Box number was accidentally ripped off of the card. Fortunately, Brian had inadvertently written our box number as the zip code and then crossed it out. I don’t think it could have gotten to us otherwise.

Serendipity!

Brian says he’s surprised that Oregon isn’t listed in one of my places to visit, and quite frankly, I’m surprised as well. Mike and I spent a lovely week in Oregon last year at the foot of Mount Hood. I’m shocked I didn’t write about it. Never fear, Brian! I’m going to drag out the photographs I took and write a few entries about our lovely stay in Oregon!

Postcard of the Week: San Antonio

This postcard was really cool because it has a big hole in the middle of it. I’m surprised it got to me in one piece. I would have thought the post office machinery would have eaten it up, but it looks like it’s in pristine condition.

Cool Postcard

Thanks for another postcard, Henry!

Postcard of the Week: The Salt Lake City LDS Temple

Filed under: Places To Visit,Postcards,Utah — Laura Moncur @ 6:11 pm

Salt Lake City LDS Temple

Since no one was sending me any postcards, I asked my friends to send me postcards. The first one to send one in was Henry J. Tillman, the joker. He sent me a postcard from Salt Lake City!

Salt Lake City LDS Temple

Interestingly enough, he chose a postcard that mispelled the word, “Mormon.” The text on the postcard says:

“SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH: With multiple spires soaring heavenward, the Morman Temple is truly a magnificent building. You may admire it only from the outside unless you are an LDS member, then you are permitted in.”

The postcard is correct. Only LDS members are allowed inside the temple, but tourists are allowed on the grounds and in the auxilliary buildings on the temple grounds. The biggest question most tourists ask is, “What do they do in there?” Sadly, it’s much more boring than you would imagine:

Thanks for being the first to send me a postcard, Henry!
